Newcastle are pushing to sign Lucas Paqueta – and are now ready to break their transfer record to sign the Lyon playmaker this summer.
Newcastle fans were worried about relegation at one point; come the end of the season they were hoping for a top-half finish.
Eddie Howe did a great job and January business was extremely encouraging for Newcastle after PIF’s investment.
You can now expect to see Newcastle go for big targets in the transfer market and some names keep coming up.
One of them is Paqueta in a rumour that just won’t go away.
Newcastle are pushing to sign Lucas Paqueta
Paqueta was linked with Newcastle back in January and the rumour is only gathering pace.
The playmaker is very close friends with Bruno Guimaraes, who left Lyon for Newcastle in January.
Paqueta has been to watch Guimaraes playing for Newcastle and is allegedly impressed with their fans.
Paqueta even visited Newcastle just last week to celebrate the birthday of Guimaraes’ partner.
The pair are clearly great friends and the prospect of joining forces once again at Newcastle has to be appealing.
The Times now report that Newcastle are ready to break their transfer record to sign Paqueta.

Paqueta is now thought to be a ‘major target’ for Newcastle and are plotting a huge £50million deal.
Howe is allegedly backing a move for Paqueta and is a big fan of his versatility to play in midfield or up front.
Paqueta, 24, racked up 11 goals and seven assists for Lyon this past season, playing mostly as a number 10.
Arsenal also want Paqueta but it looks like Newcastle are moving to the front of the queue.
That would surely make Guimaraes happy, and if they can also sign another of his friends in Renan Lodi, Newcastle would have quite the Brazilian contingent.
