Newcastle United claimed yet another win on Thursday night and transfer target Lucas Paqueta was there to see the 2-1 victory over Southampton.

The Magpies fell behind on the South Coast as Stuart Armstrong fired Southampton ahead.

Newcastle came back brilliantly though, first equalising through Chris Wood as the January signing scored his first Magpies goal.

The big moment came in the second half as midfielder Bruno Guimaraes – making his first start for Newcastle in the absence of Joelinton – produced a stunning goal.

Guimaraes fired a backheel volley into the net to give Newcastle a sixth win in their last seven games.

Now nine games unbeaten, Newcastle appear to be heading in the right direction and look to be safe from relegation.

Newcastle may already have one eye on the summer transfer window and may yet go back to Lyon for another Brazilian star after signing Guimaraes.

The Magpies allegedly made an offer for Lucas Paqueta in January, but the playmaker rejected the chance to sign a staggering deal worth around £181,000-a-week.

Paqueta is very close with Guimaraes and indicated that he would be in attendance at Southampton to watch his former teammate in action.

Paqueta was certainly a good luck charm given Guimaraes’ stunning striker, and he took to Twitter to celebrate the goal.

The Lyon star simply posted Guimaraes’ name alongside a number of emojis, celebrating alongside the Newcastle fans on social media.

Newcastle will certainly throw some money around in the transfer window this summer, and may just fancy their chances of luring Paqueta after all.

Seeing the passionate Newcastle fans will have been a draw in itself, but seeing Guimaraes thrive too? You could hardly blame Paqueta for being tempted by a move to Tyneside.
