Newcastle United want Lennon Miller and lead the race to sign the striker from Motherwell as they look to sign young talent for the future.

The Magpies haven’t always been all that productive in terms of developing players through their academy ranks.

That will now be a focus for Dan Ashworth and co, and whilst developing players from the North East will be a focus, so will adding youngsters from elsewhere.

Jordan Hackett has arrived from Tottenham Hotspur whilst Jude Smith and Alex Murphy have joined from East Fife and Galway United respectively.

Ashworth will still fancy other signings though and two young names have been linked in recent days.

Newcastle United want Lennon Miller

The Sun claim that Newcastle want to sign Sunderland teenager Chris Rigg in a £2.5million deal.

That same report notes that Newcastle are also leading the race to sign Motherwell teenager Lennon Miller too.

It’s stated that Newcastle scouts have been watching Miller in action ahead of launch a move for the Scottish talent.

Other clubs are thought to be keen on Miller too but it’s Newcastle who are at the front of the queue for his signature.

Miller, 16, has already made his first-team debut for Motherwell having featured for 11 minutes in a league cup tie against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

That saw Miller become Motherwell’s youngest-ever player at 16 years and six days.

A move to the North East would be a fascinating switch given that Miller is the son of former striker Lee Miller – who previously turned out for Newcastle’s rivals Middlesbrough.

Lennon could now follow in his father’s footsteps if Newcastle do firm up their interest in the teenage talent.

Motherwell’s academy has been producing real talent of late, headlined by Celtic playmaker David Turnbull.

Allan Campbell and Chris Cadden have enjoyed success too, whilst Stuart McKinstry was snapped up by Leeds United in 2019.

Motherwell may fancy Miller as a first-team prospect but a move to Newcastle may just be too good to turn down.
