Newcastle United are interested in signing Felix Uduokhai from FC Augsburg in the January transfer window, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that Newcastle are ready to make a bid of €25 million (£20.87 million) for the left-footed central defender.

Eddie Howe’s side have already made contact regarding a move.

Although Augsburg would like to keep the 24-year-old defender, a bid of €25 million (£20.87 million) could convince the Bundesliga club to sell him now.

Napoli are also reported to be interested in the German.

Would Felix Uduokhai make Newcastle better?

We have covered several reports on HITC Sport in recent days claiming that Newcastle are keen on signing a central defender in the January transfer window.

Sven Botman is a player who has been heavily linked.

In our view, Uduokhai would be a very good signing for Newcastle, not just for now, but for years to come.

Bundesliga.com have compared Uduokhai to former Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, now at Real Madrid.

The website has described Uduokhai as “a rare gem”, pointing out that despite being a centre-back, he has played at left-back and is comfortable with both feet.

Like Alaba, the 24-year-old is also comfortable in playing out from the back.
