It has been reported that Newcastle United had considered a transfer for Everton target Beto in January.
This revelation stems from a report by Italian outlet Messangero Veneto, as it seems like the Magpies had the Portuguese goalscorer on their mind as a potential incoming.

With a recent report suggesting that the Serie A side are demanding a £30 million fee for Beto, Everton, who reportedly bid £20 million to complete the transfer in January may have a free run at getting a transfer for him over the line as Newcastle United seem no longer interested.
Why Newcastle targeted a transfer for Beto in the first place
While Alexander Isak has displayed his talents in recent weeks, and during patches when he has managed to stay fit, Callum Wilson’s form has taken a nosedive since the World Cup.
It seemed like Wilson had finaly found his mojo after managing to stay fit before the competition but for some reason, his goalscoring prowess seems to have vanished since returning from Qatar.
As a result, it has been claimed that Newcastle were interested in a transfer for Beto, who is deemed ‘similar’ to Victor Osimhen and Folarin Balogun as per Fb Ref as a backup to Alexander Isak, whose record-fee indicated that the club saw him as their main striker for the future.
Considering how much Eddie Howe’s side shelled out to sign Isak, the 25-year-old was seen is as a budget option to bolster the striking department.
The report has also stated that while Newcastle and Everton were actually both keen on securing the transfer of Beto in January, neither club was willing to make an offer that Udinese could not refuse.
It is key to state that the 5th placed side in the Premier League considered him briefly before pulling out of the race.
In a straight shootout to sign the player, it would have been likely that the former would have triumphed, not because of their financial power but due to the success and potential of their project.
Ultimately, this is an indication that perhaps Newcastle have been losing faith in Callum Wilson as an adequate understudy to Alexander Isak, which is why they looked at Everton transfer target Beto as a potential signing.
