Paul Merson has shared his doubts on Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes on Sky Sports.
The former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit believes that there is no guarantee that Guimaraes, who joined Newcastle from Lyon in the January transfer window, will be a success.
Merson believes that the 24-year-old could be an absolute gem of a player, but he could also flop and not be able to prevent Newcastle from getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.
The Englishman told Sky Sports: “Bruno Guimaraes, who knows? He’s never played in the Premier League before, and he could be an absolute gem of a player and we’ll sit back and think what a result Newcastle had in getting him.
“We’ll be left asking why didn’t any of the big boys go for him. Or they could go down and we’ll be saying they needed to get someone who was ready-made for the Premier League.”

Bruno Guimaraes could be a Newcastle success
In our view, Guimaraes is more likely to be a success at Newcastle than struggle at St. James’ Park.
The midfielder is a very good player who is a Brazil international.
You do not get to play for Brazil unless you are really good.
Now, of course, we know that Guimaraes has not played in the Premier League before.
And he is coming into a team who are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
However, the 24-year-old has a big reputation in France, and we predict the midfielder to make an impact at Newcastle, both now and in the coming years.
Guimaraes made 19 starts and one substitute appearance in Ligue 1 for Lyon this season, scoring three goals in the process.
The midfielder also gave two assists in five Europa League matches this campaign.
