Italian outlet CMW claim Newcastle United are ready to offer an enormous wage worth £170k a week to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio, as well as offering the Serie A playmaker a huge £10m signing-on fee to join the Toon.

Milinkovic-Savic, who turns 28 later this month, is regarded as one of the best midfielders in Italy’s top tier. He has clocked up 323 games for Lazio since joining the club in 2015. Now, he is nearing eight years at Serie A side Lazio.

In that time, he has clocked up 64 goals and laid on 59 assists. This, from a player that is largely box to box. But his future is in doubt with his deal ending in 2024. Il Messaggero say Arsenal and Newcastle want the £72m midfielder.

Now, CMW say that Newcastle are willing to hand Milinkovic-Savic a huge contract worth nearly £9million a year – or £170,000 a week. The Toon are also said to be willing to hand the Serbia World Cup star a signing-on fee of £10million.

What a signing he would be for Newcastle. The Toon’s priority come the summer window will be to strengthen their midfield. They need an attacking midfielder, and Eddie Howe will also need depth at the base of his midfield.

Jonjo Shelvey has left the club to join Nottingham Forest on a permanent basis. Bruno Guimaraes has suffered an injury and that highlights the need for midfield additions. On Saturday, Newcastle used Sean Longstaff at the base.

Joelinton moved back into the midfield along with Joe Willock. Allan Saint-Maximin out wide. So, there are ways the Toon can cover. But they will want to allow Longstaff to play in his best role. A no.10 is lacking in the Toon squad.
