Lazio are reportedly warming to the idea of selling Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer amid growing interest from Newcastle United, with Arsenal also chasing the Serbian international.
According to Il Messaggero via Goal, the Serie A side are tempted to cash in on their star midfielder at the end of this season with Milinkovic-Savic’s current contract with Lazio set to expire in 2024, with the Rome-based club leaning towards selling the Arsenal and Newcastle target.
Corriere dello Sport had recently reported that Milinkovic-Savic is keen on joining Mikel Arteta’s side. However, with Newcastle now in the race, there’s a good chance that the Magpies could land the European sensation as their first bona fide-superstar signing.
With an asking price of £72m, Milinkovic-Savic could fetch a club-record fee from either Arsenal or Newcastle if Lazio do now intend to sell the midfielder in the summer. And based on just how good the 27-year-old has been this season, the money could well be worth it for the Serbian.

Indeed, six goals and eight assists in all competitions this season had made Milinkovic-Savic one of the most productive non-attackers in all of Europe. And with Arsenal and Newcastle set to spend big on a midfielder in the summer, the Lazio star makes quite a lot of sense as a blockbuster summer signing.
For Arsenal, though, whilst Milinkovic-Savic would tick a lot of boxes for what Arteta wants, the midfielder’s age profile could tempt the Premier League leaders to sign a younger player, giving Newcastle an incredible chance tat signing the Lazio star in the off-season.
Newcastle must sign Milinkovic-Savic if Lazio chooses to sell

Many expected Newcastle to break the bank the second PIF took over the club in late 2021, yet the Magpies have been rather conservative in their approach to their new super-club wealth, a direction that has paid off big time in a League Cup final and a top-four spot. Yet Milinkovic-Savic could be too good to turn down for the Toon.
After all, with Lazio now leaning towards selling their star midfielder, Newcastle can make a huge statement in the transfer market by beating the likes of Arsenal to Milinkovic-Savic’s signature, with the Serbian a player who could offer a lot for the St. James Park side.
