It has been reported that Sporting CP centre-back Goncalo Inacio would rather join Manchester United than Newcastle United in the summer.

This revelation has been put forth by Portuguese outlet O Jogo about the 20-year-old, who has been labelled as the ‘new Ruben Dias’ by Football Fan Cast. It was recently claimed that the Magpies were scouting the talented defender in a bid to sign him last year.

While it seemed like Newcastle United would re-ignite their interest in Goncalo Inacio, it seems like the player himself has no plans to join the club, favouring a switch to Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United.

Why does Goncalo Inacio reportedly favour a move to Manchester United instead of Newcastle?

Well, many would pose that question, considering Eddie Howe’s side have made incredible progress since the takeover and look destined to dominate England in the coming years.

But now it has been reported that if Goncalo Inacio departs Sporting, his sights are set on signing for a ‘top European club’ like Manchester United instead of Newcastle United.

Further details claim that Inacio was ‘not interested’ in the club’s project and remains assured that will get a bigger transfer in the summer window.

His loss

Ultimately, Newcastle will have an endless list of transfer targets to pick from even if Goncalo Inacio ends up rejecting them to join Manchester United.

The fact that they are even competing for a Champions League spot just over a year into the PIF takeover goes to show the staggering rate of progress that their project is seeing.

With European football virtually guaranteed at the St. James’ Park next season alongside their measured approach in the transfer market, it is Inacio who may live to regret his decision as this is only the start of the Newcastle revolution.
