As per a new report by the Telegraph journalist James Ducker, Newcastle United could in for a pleasant surprise as Man City have seemingly pulled out of the race to sign James Maddison in the summer.
After all, it was recently reported that the Premier League champions were keen on signing the Leicester City midfielder in the summer, and even reportedly put in a deadline day loan bid to secure his services.
However, the Magpies are said to believe that their club is the ideal next destination for the £60 million-rated attacker, as per Fabrizio Romano.
Newcastle could be favourites to sign James Maddison after Man City stance
Newcastle could be dead set to sign James Maddison in the summer, as the Telegraph’s James Ducker has reported that Man City have ‘distanced themselves’ from landing the in-form wizard, despite Pep Guardiola once describing him as an ‘incredible player’ via MEN.

The same report has also mentioned that while City plan to go big in the window after the end of the season, their recent Premier League charges have complicated matters without a doubt.
However, it seems as if the internal decision taken by Man City not to pursue Newcastle target James Maddison has no correlation with these allegations.
Huge boost for Newcastle
While Eddie Howe’s side are flying this season, they are still in need of brand-new reinforcements, especially in the creative department. But when the Sky Blues start competing with most sides in the world for the same transfer target, they tend to emerge as the winners.
But this does not seem to the case this time around, as Man City themselves are seemingly no longer keen on signing James Maddison, with Newcastle now having the chance to add one of the Premier League’s most devastating No.10’s to their arsenal.
Ultimately, we recently made an argument for why Maddison should head to St. James’ Park instead of the Etihad Stadium in 2023 anyway, which would make the potential transfer an enticing one to watch unfold.
