As per the latest information provided by Sky journalist Keith Downie, Chelsea are unlikely to sell Conor Gallagher to Newcastle United on deadline day, as they consider them as a direct rival.

The Telegraph had recently reported that Eddie Howe’s side were planning to try one last time for the England international on the final day of the winter market.

However, it seems Chelsea have decided not to sell Conor Gallagher to Newcastle, without a doubt on deadline day.

With the Magpies sitting in 4th place, whilst looking miles better than the likes of Graham Potter’s Blues and Tottenham so far, their chances of securing Champions League football remain realistic.

Furthermore, the chance to further weaken a potential challenger for the top 4 places would have put Howe and Co. in good stead.

It seems Chelsea have caught onto this potential transfer plan from Newcastle United, as they have decided not to sell Conor Gallagher to them on deadline day, as per Sky journalist Keith Downie.

The West Londoners eye them as a direct rival, which is why a sale to them especially has been ruled out.

However, Newcastle are believed to be still ‘interested’ in signing the Cobham graduate, who was linked with a switch to Arsenal on Monday by Florian Plettenburg. Even so, the fee for a permanent move has been deemed ‘too expensive’ by the PIF-owned side.

Conor Gallagher would have been a perfect fit for the Magpies

In some ways, Eddie Howe’s side remind many of the early Jurgen Klopp sides at Liverpool; athletic, press-heavy, transition-based and breathless.

Gallagher, once described as ‘brilliant’ by Kenny Dalglish (via the Sunday Post) exemplifies all such qualities, whilst also having an eye for goal playing right behind the striker.

Conor Gallagher, valued in excess of £50 million (according to the Mirror) by Chelsea would have been ideal for Newcastle, even if they signed him as late as on deadline day.

However, a switch seems unlikely for the time being.
