Newcastle United have made Fiorentina an offer for the transfer of Nicolas Gonzalez in the January window. And the Argentina ace’s agents now believe he can leave the Serie A side.

That is according to 90min, which reports Gonzalez’s representatives feel I Viola will agree to sell the forward for £35m. The Stadio Artemio Franchi outfit have already rejected a bid from Leicester City for the 24-year-old. But the Foxes’ offer was only worth an initial £30m.

Brenden Rodgers has wanted to welcome Gonzalez to the King Power Stadium this month to boost his offensive options. But Leicester chiefs are now considering alternatives for the 21-cap dynamo. The Foxes question whether or not they should improve their failed offer.

Leicester were seeking Gonzalez’s transfer having only won five of their 19 Premier League games this season. Rodgers’ side have also scored 26 goals with James Maddison (7) and Harvey Barnes (6) their lead scorers. Patson Daka and Youri Tielemans are next with three.

Gonzalez has hit home five goals in 13 appearances across all competitions so far this term for Fiorentina. He has only featured in eight Serie A games, while scoring twice, having had a number of fitness issues. The left-winger missed the World Cup in Qatar due to an injury.

Newcastle are in talks with Fiorentina and Gonzalez’s agents over a transfer

A potential transfer for Fiorentina forward Gonzalez this January also interests Newcastle. Marca reports that the Toon have made I Viola an offer for the Belen de Escobar-born star. But the Magpies put a €30m (£26.5m) bid on the table as his injury record concerns them.

Newcastle fear making an expensive commitment to sign Gonzalez if the Fiorentina star’s fitness proves problematic after any transfer. But TuttoMercatoWEB also reports that the Magpies are speaking with the forward’s representatives via video call during recent days.

Toon boss Eddie Howe has had Gonzalez on his shortlist for January signings for months, too. 90min has previously reported that Newcastle approached Fiorentina over a transfer. But given the club fear his injury record, they may prove unwilling to offer a further £8.5m.
