The Athletic have reported that Newcastle United have been put off by Leicester City ace, Youri Tielemans’ wage demands.
Reportedly, Graeme Jones, the assistant manager at the Magpies suggested the club to sign the Belgian international.
However, it seems the wage demands in place from Youri Tielemans are set to be a roadblock if Newcastle aim to complete a deal for him.
The 25-year-old, described as a ‘brilliant player’ by Brendan Rodgers (via the Express) since his arrival in the Premier League has been one of the best midfielders in the country.
With the £40 million (Guardian) man’s contract set to expire in the summer, it is no surprise why a host of sides are reportedly keen on his signature, Newcastle included.
The addition of Tielemans would undoubtedly increase the technical ability of the midfield at Howe’s disposal, especially with Bruno Guimaraes already in the side.
However, it seems Youri Tielemans’ wage demands could well mean that a move to Newcastle United could be off the table.
Currently, Sean Longstaff, Joelinton and Joe Willock are Newcastle’s other options in midfield, alongside Guimaraes.
However, all the 3 aforementioned names lack the controlling presence Tielemans can add to the midfield.
Unfortunately, a potential match made in heaven may not come to life.
Newcastle put off by Tielemans’ wages

As reported by the Athletic, Newcastle United have been put off by signing Youri Tielemans, due to his staggering wage demands.
In addition, the club may now look at alternatives, instead of trying to land the Leicester City lynchpin.
Should Newcastle drop the pride and splash the cash to bring him in as a Guimaraes replacement?
The Daily Mail have claimed that Bruno Guimaraes is set to be unavailable for weeks due to his recent injury concern.
Keeping that in mind, many will clamour for Youri Tielemans to come through the door as a replacement for the Brazilian international.
However, Newcastle United must stick to their policy of being measured from a business perspective, and not simply bow down to a player’s wage demands just to get a deal done, which is why they should perhaps avoid the Tielemans deal.
