Earlier this summer, Barcelona signed Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie, both of whom were wanted by Newcastle and Tottenham.
However, the Spanish giants have been working against financial restraints, and as a result, they are yet to register the pair despite officially announcing them.
Now, Newcastle and Tottenham could bizarrely have a second chance to sign Christensen and Kessie.
What’s the story?
Well, this would be quite something.
ESPN believe Barcelona need to register Christensen and Kessie before Saturday’s La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano, or else the pair could walk away from the Camp Nou for nothing.
It is said that the pair have clauses in their contracts which they can choose to activate if they are not registered before Saturday, meaning the Spanish giants are in a race against time to raise the money required to do so.
Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde are also yet to be registered, although because Christensen and Kessie were signed for free, they are allowed to walk away for nothing if they are not registered by Saturday.
If the duo did leave Catalonia just weeks after arriving, it would pretty much sum up the circus that is Barcelona right now.
Newcastle & Tottenham should move on
In our view, Antonio Conte and Eddie Howe shouldn’t take notice of this potential opportunity.
Newcastle have since signed Sven Botman to bolster their centre-back department, while Tottenham managed to land Yves Bissouma from Brighton in a deal worth just £25m to strengthen their midfield options.

Of course, if Christensen and Kessie do become free agents once again, it will be tempting.
However, unless Newcastle and Tottenham suffer serious injuries in midfield or defence, they should leave the pair to find new homes elsewhere.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as things will become very interesting if Barcelona fail to register Christensen and Kessie before Saturday.
