Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Leonando Ulloa. Newcastle should join the race as well.

With Newcastle United takeover issues grabbing the headlines, Rafael Benitez still remains in the dark over the club’s transfer policy.

The Magpies are badly in need of new signings in the January transfer, but with transfer funds limited, Benitez will have to sign players on loan.

With Newcastle having scored only 21 goals this season, Benitez should be looking to bolster his attacking options this month.

Joselu, the summer signing, is the club’s top scorer with four goals. Dwight Gayle, the other striker, has three goals to his name, and Ayoze Perez has managed two.

Newcastle have been linked with strikers like Troy Deeney (reported), Daniel Sturridge (reported), and Islam Slimani (reported), but again, lack of funds means that they have been left out in the race.

With that in mind, Newcastle should consider making a move for Leicester City striker Leonardo Ulloa, who has become surplus to requirements under Claude Puel.

The Foxes are looking to offload the 31-year-old, and could be willing to listen to loan offers as well.

He has played just 19 minutes of Premier League football this season, and probably would welcome the opportunity of playing elsewhere on loan.

According to reports from the Telegraph, Aston Villa are interested in signing him. However, Ulloa could be tempted by the prospect of staying in the Premier League, should Newcastle make a move for him.
