Even if Newcastle United sign Chris Wood, it isn’t enough to stay in the Premier League.

The Burnley hitman is heavily expected to join Newcastle from Burnley in the January transfer window.

However, with the Magpies netting only 19 Premier League goals this season, and Callum Wilson being out injured, Eddie Howe is going to need additional firepower up front.

According to The Daily Mail, the St James’s Park outfit are dreaming about bringing Alexander Isak to Tyneside also in January.

And what an unbelievable transfer it’ll be if Newcastle could, in fact, pull it off.

Exceptional

The Real Sociedad hitman has a hell of a reputation after his performances for Sweden during Euro 2020.

Isak, who has a £75 million release clause, was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool during the summer but nothing materialised.

However, with Dusan Vlahovic getting all the spotlight in terms of exciting young goalscorers, there’s less attention on Isak.

Even Gary Lineker is an admirer of the powerhouse, labelling him an ‘exceptional talent’ in 2021.

He said on Twitter: “Don’t think there’s much doubt that Alexander Isak will attract a lot of attention from clubs across Europe. Exceptional talent.”

Can Newcastle get him?

Well, financially, yes.

Newcastle’s owners have a fortune of around £320 billion, which makes targets like Isak extremely attainable.

However, the player might have reservations about joining Newcastle because, as mentioned, Liverpool and Arsenal were asking about him last summer.

And if you’re Isak, do you really want to go straight into a relegation battle to stay in the Premier League? Ideally, no.

But the more players Newcastle sign, the more they stand a chance of staying in the top division – and ultimately, making their home appealing to top targets such as the Sweden international.
