Real Sociedad hitman Alexander Isak is considered to be Newcastle United’s dream signing this month as they chase a new striker.

The Daily Mail report that Isak is the ideal signing for Newcastle this month in what would be an ambitious signing.

Isak signed a new Sociedad contract over the summer, with his release clause now up to around €90million (£75million).

Isak dazzled at Euro 2020 but has actually dipped a little this season. After 17 La Liga goals last season, Isak only has four in 17 outings this term.

That may give Newcastle some hope of convincing Sociedad to sell, but you can imagine it would be close to the asking price.

The report does also note that Arsenal fancy signing Isak as they target a new striker.

Eurosport reported in November that Isak is emerging as Arsenal’s top striking target with Dusan Vlahovic difficult to sign.

Can Newcastle really pull off a deal for Isak?

Newcastle have plenty of cash to play with thanks to their takeover, but this one seems unlikely.

Isak is one of the top young strikers in Europe and has many suitors. Almost all of them aren’t involved in a relegation battle.

Newcastle will face this issue many times in January. They are in real danger of slipping into the Championship and landing big targets will be difficult.

Arsenal on the other hand should have Europa League football at a minimum next season, making them more appealing than Newcastle.

This would be quite the move from Newcastle if it happens, but you just can’t see a way they convince Isak to join this month when there will be so much summer interest.
