Newcastle United were given some slip hope of signing Mathias Normann last week – but they have ultimately missed out on a deal.
The Magpies added one midfielder in Joe Willock, but Steve Bruce seemingly fancies adding a more defensively-minded midfielder too.
Last week, Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang reported that Newcastle were in the race for Rostov ace Mathias Normann – and seemingly had hope.
They reported that Normann had an offer on the table from Norwich City, but Normann didn’t want to join them out of fear he would end up playing in the Championship.
That should have given Newcastle a window of opportunity to land Normann, but Norwich have managed to convince him to sign.
The Canaries have confirmed the signing of Normann, securing a season-long loan deal with the option of a permanent move in 2022.
Maybe Norwich forced a U-turn out of Normann, or maybe VG just had their information wrong, but Norwich now have their man.
Newcastle have official missed out, and the Magpies will have to face Normann and Norwich on December 1st.
They will have to hope this doesn’t come back to bite them, not only in that game but also in a potential relegation battle, with both sides predicted to struggle.
With Normann no longer available, Bruce and co will have to go back to the drawing board to find another midfield target.
