Lee Dixon has said on Friday Football Social on BBC Radio 5 Live (7:30pm, October 22, 2021) that he thinks that Paulo Fonseca will become the new manager of Newcastle United.

The former Arsenal star has said that given that Fonseca reportedly had a great interview at Newcastle, it looks like that the 48-year-old will become the permanent successor to Steve Bruce at St. James’ Park.

The Mirror are reporting that Fonseca is set to become the new manager of the Magpies.

Dixon said on Friday Football Social on BBC Radio 5 Live (7:30pm, October 22, 2021): “I believe he interviewed really well, and I think from the noises coming out from that interview, you would imagine that he is going to be given the appointment very soon.”

Would Paulo Fonseca be good for Newcastle?

BBC pundit Alan Hutton has shared his doubts on Fonseca’s suitability for the Newcastle managerial role.

The former Tottenham Hotspur right-back believes that the Portuguese’s lack of experience in the Premier League is a risk.

Now, many could think like that.

However, to get experience, you have to start somewhere.

Marcelo Bielsa, Nuno, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola did not have Premier League experience when they arrived in England.

In our view, Fonseca could be a very good managerial appointment for Newcastle.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk and AS Roma boss has European pedigree, and he could build Newcastle.

Yes, Newcastle are in relegation battle at the moment, but we are certain that PIF will splash the cash in the January transfer window.
