Ivan Fresneda has been one of the key figures in this January transfer window, and it looks as though the race for his signature is heating up.
A move to the Premier League could be on the cards for the Spanish right-back. Both Arsenal and Newcastle have held talks with the ‘fantastic’ defender’s agents according to The Athletic, but a move to Newcastle may be more likely.
Indeed, the Magpies were named alongside Borussia Dortmund and Stade Rennes as one of the three most likely teams to bid for Fresneda this month.
As you can see, the race for this young man’s signature is an incredibly competitive one.

Fresneda likely wouldn’t be the first-choice right-back at St James’ Park if he moved to Newcastle, but with Kieran Trippier not getting any younger, it may be quite easy to sell the Spaniard on this move as he has a clear route into the first-team at some point.
However, with that being said, if you’re a young player right now the place to be is Borussia Dortmund.
The German club have a remarkable track record when it comes to getting the best out of young talents and giving chances to budding talents – see Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland and Youssoufa Moukoko as examples, and Fresneda would fit into that sort of policy brilliantly.
The same goes for Rennes. The likes of Ousmane Dembele, Raphinha and Eduardo Camavinga have come through the French club in recent years, so that’s another alluring destination if you’re a teenager trying to make your name in this game.
Newcastle are in the race alongside these two clubs, but given the fact that Trippier is the Magpies’ most important player and that Rennes and Dortmund are two of the best teams in the world at developing young talents, Eddie Howe’s side may not be favourites in this race.
