Newcastle could finally have been given the ideal chance to sign Leicester City and England star James Maddison after being strongly linked with him in the summer – thanks to returning goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, amid new reports.
Maddison, 26, is a priority target for Newcastle. Give Me Sport report that Maddison, who is rated at £60million, is in favour of a move to Newcastle over Liverpool. Eddie Howe is said to be very interested in bringing Maddison north.
Little surprise. In terms of English players yet to join a top-six side, Maddison is probably the best in England’s top tier. He has seven goals and four assists in 13 Premier League matches this season – but is currently out with a knee injury.
It is unclear if Maddison will leave Leicester in the January season. You would suspect that he will remain until the end of the window. But if Leicester want the full £60m price tag, they may have to cash in this month. His deal ends in 2024.

Newcastle have ideal chance to sign Maddison thanks to Dubravka
Most Leicester fans will tell you that when it comes to recruiting for their side, a goalkeeper might be at the top of their list. Danny Ward has been promoted after the loss of Kasper Schmeichel. But the Welshman has struggled at times.
Guardian reporter Ed Aarons claims Leicester are showing interest in Toon goalkeeper Dubravka. It comes after the Slovakia star returned to Tyneside following a disappointing loan spell at Manchester United. He played only twice.
So, Leicester want Dubravka and need a goalkeeper as soon as possible. Leicester may also have to sell Maddison this month to get full price. Surely, it makes sense for Leicester to include Dubravka in a deal for Maddison this month?
Newcastle should use Leicester’s interest in Dubravka to get Maddison. Only allow Leicester to buy him if it is in a deal for Maddison. Perhaps, a fee of £55million and Dubravka could get a deal over the line for Leicester’s England star.
