Newcastle United remain interested in Southampton ace Carlos ‘Charlie’ Alcaraz ahead of the January transfer window with the Premier League club’s manager Eddie Howe a big fan of the Argentine.
Shortly after Southampton’s relegation in the spring, the January signing from River Plate went public with his desire to continue playing at the very highest level of English football.
“At the moment, I’m still playing at the club. I’m not very aware of these things (the speculation). I just play and give my best,” Carlos Alcaraz told D Sports, via TNT.
“(But) I want to stay playing in the Premier League. The reality is that I want to continue learning in the league.”

With talkSPORT reporting that Newcastle United remain interested ahead of the winter window, an opportunity to do just that could soon fall into Alcaraz’s lap.
Newcastle like Southampton’s Carlos Alcaraz
A goalscoring, box-busting attacking midfielder remains arguably a missing piece in Eddie Howe’s St James’ jigsaw and Newcastle – who showed an interest in the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Gabri Veiga and James Maddison before the trio completed big-money moves elsewhere – may sense an opportunity to strike for Southampton’s £12 million man.
Alcaraz hasn’t started any of the Saints’ last three Championship fixtures, after all.
Then again, do not be surprised to see the tireless 20-year-old returned to the XI; Russell Martin’s side losing all three games by an aggregate score of 10-1 with Alcarez on the bench.
Second time lucky for Magpies

TalkSPORT say that Newcastle are one of a number of admirers. The Magpies ‘made an enquiry’ over the summer, and Howe remains a big fan of a youngster who ended last season as Southampton’s third-highest goalscorer, despite only arriving midway through the campaign.
Alcaraz was particularly outstanding in that thrilling 3-3 draw with Arsenal. It was he who opened the scoring after just 27 seconds, embarrassing Aaron Ramsdale with a fabulous finish from range.
Newcastle have already signed Tino Livramento from Southampton this year.
