Carlos ‘Charly’ Alcarez has delivered a hammer blow to Southampton with the reported Newcastle United target admitting that he wants to return to the Premier League.
With James Ward-Prowse, Kyle Walker-Peters, Stuart Armstrong, Che Adams, Armel Bella-Kotchap and Romeo Lavia among those who could depart following last season’s bottom-place finish, reports from The Athletic that their £13 million January signing was happy and settled on the South Coast felt like a silver lining around a very dark St Mary’s cloud.
The report suggested that Carlos Alcarez was likely to commit his future to Southampton.

But, in a major blow to the club’s hopes of bouncing back to the promised land at the first time of asking, Alcaraz has now indicated that all the early optimism over his short-term plans may have been more than a little misplaced.
Carlos Alcaraz opens door to Newcastle United move
“At the moment I’m still playing at the club. I’m not very aware of these things (the speculation). I just play and give my best,” Alcaraz tells D Sports, via TNT.
“I want to stay playing in the Premier League. The reality is that I want to continue learning in the league.”
According to talkSPORT, Newcastle have been scouting Alcarez. The Magpies can not only offer Premier League football but Champions League football too, therefore making a potential switch to St James’ Park all the more tempting for a man who comfortably outshone all of Southampton’s other January signings during four impressive first months in English football.
“You know what, he’s fabulous,” former Man United, England and City ace Owen Hargreaves tells Premier League Productions.
“He’ll probably go to a top-six side, Carlos Alcaraz. The only one who had an impact from January was Alcaraz. He is fantastic.”
Alcarez may potentially be viewed at Newcastle as a more affordable alternative to Nicolo Barella. Inter Milan want much more than a reported £50 million for the industrious Italy international (Fabrizio Romano).
