Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are reportedly on the hunt for a potential replacement for Sandro Tonali, and one of the players they are looking at is Andrey Santos, who is on loan at Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest from Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea.

According to 90min, Newcastle United have drawn up a list of players who could potentially be brought in should Sandro Tonali be banned from football due to betting issues.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is one of them.

Manchester City and England international midfielder Kalvin Phillips is another.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves is on Newcastle’s radar as welll.

90min has claimed that Newcastle are also looking at the possibility of bringing Andrey Santos to St. James’ Park in the January transfer window.

Two problems regarding Newcastle United and Andrey Santos

The report has stated that Newcastle United are “intrigued” by Andrey Santos.

The Magpies wanted to bring Santos to St. James’ Park before he signed for Chelsea in January 2023 for £13 million (Goal).

However, there are two problems in a potential deal involving the Brazilian midfielder and Newcastle.

First of all, Santos is on loan at Nottingham Forest at the moment.

So, first, Forest would have to be convinced to terminate the loan deal early.

Secondly, Newcastle already have Lewis Hall on loan from Chelsea.

For Santos to move on loan to the Magpies, Newcastle would first have to make Hall’s deal permanent.

According to 90min, there is “an obligation to buy clause” in Hall’s contract, but that is only for next summer.

Chelsea may not send Andrey Santos to Newcastle United

I am not sure if Chelsea would send Andrey Santos to Newcastle United even on a loan deal.

Chelsea and Newcastle are direct rivals for the UEFA Champions League places in the Premier League table this season.

I do not see why the Blues would help out Newcastle for the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, 90min has reported that Newcastle are among the clubs who are interested in Sao Paulo’s Pablo Maia.

The report has claimed that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle, West Ham United, Nottingham Forest and Fulham all have scouted the midfielder.
