Eden Hazard to Newcastle United is exactly the sort of speculation that fans have been longing to see.
Newcastle were bought out by Saudi Public Investment Fund three weeks ago.
And with a fortune of £320 billion, it’s safe to say that the Magpies could have a ridiculous arsenal in the transfer market over the coming years.
The St James’s Park club have already been linked to quite a few big-name stars.
But none of them bigger than Hazard who, according to ESPN, is on Newcastle’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.
Having been one of the Premier League’s best players during his time at Chelsea, no fan of the North-East club needs a reminder of how good Hazard is.
And neither does Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
Darlow had something of a sporting rivalry with the former Chelsea superstar down the years.
Back in December of 2017, the Belgium international, who earns £400,000 per week at Real Madrid, scored twice against Newcastle in a win at Stamford Bridge.
One of those was a penalty – a Panenka, which the stopper admitted ‘annoyed’ him.
He said after the game: “The chip annoyed me a little bit. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t, but it’s a great penalty.”
But the annoyance went both ways in the same game because if not for a series of stunning Darlow saves, the then-Chelsea attacker would’ve scored a few more than the brace he did get.
Speaking afterwards, Hazard said: “I have to say that is a great goalkeeper who saved two great chances.”
On the Panenka, he added: “I knew the goalkeeper was going to dive so I tried to put it in the middle and it’s a goal, so it’s good. It’s a risk, but it’s a goal.”
There’s clearly mutual respect between both players and it’ll be fascinating to see if there’s any substance to this rumour whatsoever.
