Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing Real Madrid star Eden Hazard as the club’s first marquee signing under their new owners.
According to ESPN, Newcastle are keen on Hazard, who was one of the best wingers in England during his seven-year spell with Chelsea. The Belgian international won the Premier League twice as well as the 2015 PFA Player of the Year award.
However, since moving to Madrid in 2019, Hazard’s time has been plagued with injuries. The attacker has missed a whopping 59 games over the past two seasons as the winger’s dream move to Spain has turned into a nightmare.
Now, a return to England looks to be on the cards. Moreover, the report states that Newcastle and Chelsea could go in for the winger, with Madrid open to selling Hazard for €50m (£42m).
Hazard has largely remained injury-free the season. But the winger is yet to win the favour of Carlo Ancelotti, who returned to Los Blancos this summer from Everton. The Belgian stat has only managed over 400 minutes of football this campaign.
Indeed, with so little playing time, Hazard could well be off this January. Moreover, as per the report, Newcastle see the attacker as the ideal first marquee signing under the club’s new owners.
Even with injuries, Newcastle will struggle to sign Hazard

Whilst Hazard has had a mare with injuries over the past two seasons, Newcastle will struggle hugely to convince the 30-year-old to join the northeast club, even if they can offer the finances to conclude such a deal.
The former Chelsea star will be keen to join a club that are competing in Europe, something Newcastle will not qualify for this season miracles aside. And Hazard could be in favour of a return to west London if Thomas Tuchel’s side comes in for the Madrid outcast.
