Garth Crooks has praised Liverpool striker Divock Origi on BBC Sport for his goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend.

The former Tottenham Hotspur forward has included Origi in his Premier League Team of the Week for BBC Sport.

The Belgium international striker came on as a substitute and scored deep into injury time for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side won the Premier League game 1-0.

BBC Sport pundit Crooks has been impressed by the 26-year-old, and has noticed that he is very popular among the Liverpool players.

Praise for Liverpool striker Divock Origi

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “A player cannot survive by goals alone – not if you want to play regularly for Liverpool you can’t.

“Divock Origi is as good a finisher as I’ve seen. I sat in disbelief when he came on against Spurs in the Champions League final and scored one of the best goals I’ve seen taken in such circumstances.

“To have the capacity to remain at a club when you have that finishing ability speaks volumes about the manager and your team-mates.

“Origi never complains about being on the bench but always seems the most dangerous man on the pitch when he’s called on by his team.

“The response from his team-mates who came from everywhere to congratulate him after winner against Wolves tells me just how popular he is in the dressing room.”

Impact sub

Liverpool manager Klopp raved about Origi after the match against Wolves.

And, as Crooks notes, the striker seems very popular among the Liverpool players.

In our opinion, Origi is an important player for Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will be away on international duty in January due the Africa Cup of Nations.

That will allow Origi to get chances.

Now, we do not think that Origi is particularly great when he starts matches.

But, we have seen time and time again how important the striker is as an impact substitute.
