Rangers are reportedly looking to replace Allan McGregor with the signing of Freddie Woodman in the summer with a fee of £3.5million required to land the English stopper – a player Neil Lennon wanted at Celtic while in charge in 2020.
Woodman, 25, finally left Newcastle on a permanent basis last summer. It comes after a multitude of loan spells, which include two loans at Kilmarnock and Aberdeen and then two years with Swansea. He joined Preston, signing until 2025.
But The Sun claim his form at Preston has caught the eye at Ibrox, and in the Premier League. A fee of £3.5m is said to be enough to land the ex-Toon goalkeeper. Rangers face competition from Leeds and Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City.
However, he would surely start for Rangers while at Leicester he may struggle. At Leeds, unless they go down, he will remain second choice behind Illan Meslier. A move to Rangers would see Woodman start. But do Celtic need him?

Rangers looking to sign Woodman, Lennon wanted him at Celtic in 2020
Back in 2020, while Lennon remained at the helm, The Chronicle reported that Celtic were keen on bringing Woodman to Parkhead. They did not get a deal done and instead, the Hoops endured a tricky season between the sticks.
Indeed, it was a season that saw Rangers go on to complete an undefeated Premiership campaign. Lennon was sacked and Ange Postecoglou brought in Joe Hart, who has been wonderful for Celtic. Keeping 41 clean sheets in 90 games.
Already captaining the side on occasion, Hart is one of the first names on the team sheet. But Hart turns 36 next month and Celtic need to think about replacing the 75-time England man long term. His deal ends in the summer of 2024.
Why not reignite interest shown by Lennon and Celtic almost three years ago in Woodman, and look to beat Rangers to the signing of the Preston star? Celtic are clearly admirers of Woodman and beating Rangers, would be better still.
