Rangers cruised to victory against Dundee United but there were strong words for a key player ahead of kick-off

Neil McCann has pinpointed an issue with Alfredo Morelos’ game while contrasting the striker with some Rangers and Celtic goalscorers past and present.
Speaking ahead of a 4-1 win for Steven Gerrard’s side against Dundee United on Sunday afternoon, former Ibrox winger McCann lamented Morelos’ slow start in Thursday’s 4-3 Europa League victory against Royal Antwerp.
The Colombian was involved in all four goals against the Belgian side, but McCann believes he needs to be more switched on at the start of games.
Delving deeper into the 24-year-old’s style, he discussed how the striker differs from Rangers legend Ally McCoist and Celtic’s current star man Odsonne Edouard.

Talking on Rangers TV, McCann said: “I think he’s fast becoming a player who I wouldn’t say is impossible to coach, but he’s very close to it.
“He’s the type of boy with this petulant streak in him but he’s involved in all four goals there (in Belgium).
“I thought he started very poorly again. I don’t think he starts games right.
“He never looks as if he’s switched on immediately at the start of games, but then he absolutely came into his own in that match and he was so instrumental in Rangers getting back into the game then winning the game.
“I actually don’t think he’s a natural striker in terms of his finishing ability, but he’s clinical in terms of balls bouncing close where he doesn’t need to think and can just smash things.

“So he’s a proper old-fashioned goalscorer in my mind.
“Is he an Ally-McCoist-type finisher? Would I even go across the city and say he’s an Edouard finisher? He’s not.
“He doesn’t go cold in the box. Rod Wallace is in my all-time team, because Rod would just go cold at times – he would score instinctive goals, he would see, open his body up and just cool right down.
“Alfredo Morelos looks as if he rushes things, but when he’s on it he’s a fantastic player to have in the side.”
Morelos, who reportedly earns £33,000 per week, scored his side’s fourth in the win over Mickey Mellon’s side on Sunday.
He knew little about it, but found his name on the scoresheet after United keeper Benjamin Siegrist hit the ball off him and the ball found its way into the net.
