Speaking on the Handbrake Off podcast, Lee Dixon has shared what he knows about Mesut Ozil’s situation at Arsenal.
Nobody needs reminding what is going on with Ozil at the moment after the German was left out of the Gunners’ 25-man Premier League squad, meaning that he isn’t able to play for Arsenal at least until January, when the Gunners can then re-register him if they wish.
However, If Dixon is right about off the field matters contributing to Ozil’s situation, we may never see the World Cup winner turn out for Arsenal again.
“I think that the Ozil situation is long gone and it’s not necessarily totally football matters that is the reason for that,” Dixon said.
“My understanding of the situation is that if it was purely based on football then he wouldn’t be out in the cold and it might be different situation. I’m not saying he’d be in the team and I’m not saying he should be in the team, but my understanding of it is that it’s not a purely football-based decision.”

There are bound to be dozens of theories about what has happened behind the scenes after this revelation, but we can’t be sure on what the truth of the situation is.
Arsenal fans have recently been calling for Ozil to be put back into the 25-man squad in January, but this update from Dixon makes it seem rather unlikely.
The Gunners are certainly struggling without Ozil in the side, they’ve scored just 10 goals in the league this season, and that lack of creativity in the final third is down to the fact that Mikel Arteta can’t call upon a player like Ozil who can play that final pass.
Hopefully, this situation can be sorted out between the two parties and there can be an amicable ending.
