A big season awaits Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence after his first season at the club was one to forget.

Despite being brought in by Antonio Conte last summer, he never started a game under the now-sacked Tottenham coach, and instead, he was loaned out in January.

With Djed Spence in Australia for Tottenham’s pre-season tour, he posted on Instagram ‘back to business’, with his former Rennes teammate, Jeremy Doku, posting in the comments section ‘my guy’.

Spence under Postecoglou

It’s going to be interesting to see how Ange Postecoglou utilises the all-action right-back because he has a number of players to pick from in that position.

Pedro Porro arrived in January and showcased great attacking quality, even though his debut at Leicester City was one to forget.

Then there is Emerson Royal, who despite struggling during the early stages of his Spurs career, he improved a lot last season.

You would imagine the experienced duo are ahead of Spence in the pecking order, which might point towards the Englishman having to go out on loan again.

It also needs to be noted that Spurs won’t be in Europe next season, so there will be fewer games played.

Therefore, it’s perhaps best for Spence to go out again, unless Postecoglou plans to use him further forward or even Porro.

In truth, the duo have the attacking quality to do just that because their traits are what they do in the final third rather than in their own defensive third.
