Matthias Ginter has told the Kicker meets DAZN podcast it is hard to imagine his contract situation at Borussia Monchengladbach changing, amid transfer interest from Tottenham.
The centre-half has just eight-months remaining on his current terms at Borussia-Park and talks over renewing are currently on hold. Die Fohlen have felt the brunt of the pandemic on their finances, and been unable to table a sufficient offer.
Monchengladbach Sports Director Max Eberl told Sport1 recently that a new deal remains in the pipeline as their finances improve. Noting: “We actually couldn’t make an adequate offer to Ginter as a German national player. We just didn’t have the financial means.”
Tottenham are keeping close tabs on Ginter’s situation at Borussia Monchengladbach with a view to a possible transfer in 2022. Calciomercato cite Spurs as rivals to Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. While Bild also reported this May that Spurs had made a bid.
Ginter says he has spoken with Monchengladbach chief Eberl about a new contract, but is yet to discuss any specifics. The German also adds it is hard to imagine any progress soon:
“A year ago I would have signed blindly because the club was and is important to me. The situation is incredibly tricky, but it is difficult to foresee something now. Much is open.”

Ginter admitting that the situation with his Borussia Monchengladbach contract is unlikely to change any time soon will offer Tottenham – and their rival suitors – hope of securing a transfer for the German centre-back next year, potentially as a free agent in the summer.
Spurs have reportedly retained their admiration of the £54k-a-week enforcer after seeing an offer fall short this year. And his services on a free will prove particularly enticing for Managing Director Fabio Paratici as he strives to bolster Nuno Espirito Santo’s options.
Ginter has started seven of Monchengladbach’s eight Bundesliga fixtures so far this season, in which they have only lost twice. They have also secured wins over Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg, while keeping a clean sheet against their rivals, BVB.
