Jose Enrique has tipped James Maddison to secure a transfer to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United over Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur.

The Leicester City star is a player a number of Premier League clubs are keen to sign, with Enrique adding on his Instagram story that Newcastle United is a ‘much better club’ for James Maddison.

The fact that the Magpies can offer Champions League football to the 26-year-old should be a reason in itself to move to St James’ Park.

That’s why fans won’t be surprised to hear that Newcastle are ‘leading’ Tottenham in the race for his signature, with the 2023 summer transfer window now officially open.

A player dubbed ‘very rare’ by Danny Murphy, the fact that Maddison has scored 22 goals in his last 65 league games is pretty impressive for a midfielder that has been playing in a declining team.

But, for Enrique, he thinks someone like Howe can take the Englishman’s game to even higher levels.

“He has to go to Newcastle,” said Enrique. “Much better club and he knows, under Eddie (Howe), there is a big project and he will improve a lot under him as well.”

How much is Maddison worth?

Leicester City’s relegation has certainly taken a few million off Maddison’s price, which is something the Midlands side have to take on the chin.

But if a number of clubs are keen on his talents, then can Leicester instigate a possible transfer fight, which just increases the player’s price?

There is talk that Declan Rice is going to Arsenal for £100 million, will Maddison fetch half that price, a little less or can the Foxes manage to secure over £50 million for their player? Perhaps under £50 million is the right note to hit.
