Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma are reportedly interested in signing Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic, one year after the Serbian snubbed moves to both Leeds United and Tottenham.
According to La Stampa, Roma have stepped up their interest in the 25-year-old as Mourinho looks to rebuild the midfield this summer, with the Italian side already landing former Manchester United star Nemanja Matic and Juventus reportedly offering Arthur in exchange for Nicolo Zaniolo.
It’s not the first time Mourinho has eyed a move for Lukic, with the Portuguese manager attempting to sign the Torino star during his time at Tottenham, with Leeds also chasing the midfielder in the same transfer window. However, the Serie A star rejected both sides to remain in Italy.
And now, 12 months later, Mourinho is once again looking to sign Lukic, this time as manager of Roma. And the three-time Premier League champion could have a strong chance of landing the midfielder this time around given what the former Spurs boss achieved last season.
Mourinho was key behind Roma’s UEFA Europa Conference League triumph, the club’s first piece of silverware in over a decade, and the Portuguese manager has brought a sense of optimism and hope to the historic Italian side for the first time in years.
With La Stampa labelling Lukic as a ‘sensational talent’, it makes sense why Mourinho is once again keen on signing the former Partizan Belgrade superstar, with the midfielder adding a lot of quality to the Roma midfield that could be lost this summer should Zaniolo leave the Stadio Olimpico.
Roma signing Lukic would improve Mourinho’s midfield significantly

Lukic has been on Mourinho’s radar for some time, and the Roma manager finally signing the Torino star this summer will be a huge improvement for I Giallorossi, who next season will be aiming for big things after their success in Europe.
Indeed, Lukic made a bold call last season deciding to remain in Turin despite interest from Leeds and Tottenham, yet this summer could see the midfielder make the big move he has finally been dreaming of, with Mourinho seemingly keen on making him a big part of Roma’s plans for the coming years.
