Moroccan-origin Bollywood star Nora Fatehi has weighed in on the controversial ending to the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal, calling it one of the most “unethical” and dramatic matches she’s ever seen.
Fame from films aside, Fatehi’s deep emotional connection to Morocco, her cultural roots, made the roller-coaster finale a moment she says she “will never forget.”
The final in Rabat drew global attention after refereeing decisions and player reactions sparked chaos on the pitch.
Senegal ultimately won the title 1-0 in extra time courtesy of Pape Gueye’s winning goal, but the match will be remembered as much for the late controversy as for the football itself.

Nora Fatehi calls AFCON final “unethical” and praises Morocco’s spirit
Nora Fatehi took to Instagram to express how deeply the match affected her, both emotionally and culturally.
““It took me some time to process what happened at the finals! This will go down in history as one of the most unethical, disappointing, and diabolical behavior! This taught us that in all circumstances Morocco maintains class, prestige, and exemplary attitude!” she wrote.
Fatehi also celebrated her experience in Morocco beyond the controversy, highlighting the hospitality and growth of the country.
“I wanna take this time to appreciate the experience I had here at AFCON and in Morocco! I applaud the advancement, elevation, and hospitality of the country and its people! This experience has shown us that Morocco is growing fast and will remain the top country in Africa!” she added.
The 2026 AFCON final was played at Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium and was overshadowed by contentious refereeing calls late in stoppage time, including a penalty awarded to hosts Morocco that was overturned after protests and a long delay. Senegal players briefly walked off the pitch in protest before returning and eventually winning in extra time.
Nora Fatehi on passion, patriotism, and unforgettable moments
Fatehi continued her tribute by celebrating the spirit of Africa and her pride in Moroccan fans amid the heartbreak of defeat.
“We are proud Africans and no one can change that! These last few weeks I enjoyed some of the best moments with my friends and loved ones! I felt what it means to be passionate and patriotic! It’s more than football for us! It’s celebrating our country, our king, our people and our development!” she continued.
She also recognised the efforts of the Moroccan national team and coaching staff for their dignity in defeat.
“Shoutout to our coach and the players for moving in dignity and pride! You have made us proud! Dima Meghreb! Thank you to my non-Moroccan fans who supported this journey and cheered on my country! I’ll never forget it! World Cup we coming,” Fatehi concluded.
