Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal are two of the most prominent managers Morgan Schneiderlin played under, but he recently spoke about a different coach who left an even stronger impression on him.

The 36-year-old former midfielder’s time at Old Trafford didn’t quite go as planned after joining from Southampton in 2015 for around £25m.

Schneiderlin made just 47 appearances for United, scoring once and providing one assist during his time with the club.

He did manage to pick up some silverware, though, winning the FA Cup under Van Gaal in 2016 before the Dutchman was dismissed.

Morgan Schneiderlin left Manchester United in 2017, making the move to Everton in a deal that could rise to £24m.

It was at Goodison Park where he crossed paths with Carlo Ancelotti, who took charge of the Toffees in 2019. Their time together gave Schneiderlin a new perspective on what makes a top manager.

Despite his respect for other managers, Schneiderlin has spoken highly of Mauricio Pochettino, calling his time under the former Southampton and Tottenham boss the best experience of his career.

“My best experience was with Pochettino, but Ancelotti’s man management was striking,” he told FourFourTwo magazine.

Despite being sold by Mourinho, Schneiderlin spoke highly of the manager and was impressed by his approach.

“I was impressed by Mourinho’s training sessions, his frankness and the clarity of his analysis,” he said.

“I didn’t play for him much, but thought he was a top coach, and he’s not as defensive as people say.”

After leaving England, Schneiderlin went on to have spells at Nice, Konyaspor and AE Kifisia before retiring from football in 2024.
