Celtic are keen on Vakoun Issouf Bayo.

When Celtic fans heard the club was interested in Vakoun Issouf Bayo, the reaction was not positive.

Bayo, 21, is a relative unknown, and Celtic supporters want to see the club signing more proven talent.

He has scored 18 goals this season already playing for Slovakian side DAC Dunajska.

The Daily Star have reported that Celtic submitted a £1.75 million offer for Bayo, which they have been told to increase.

Celtic fans understandably want a bigger name, but they need look no further than Alfredo Morelos of rivals Rangers to see that Bayo could work out to be a success.

Morelos of course is a player Celtic fans do not admire at all, but objectively, it is hard to argue with his overall goalscoring record even if he has not done it in Old Firm matches.

He has scored 27 goals for Rangers since joining, the same number Moussa Dembele managed at Celtic.

Like Bayo, Morelos was a young foreign player starring in a low ranking top flight league. Morelos was the top scorer in Finland before Rangers swooped.

Rangers gambled that the young, prolific goalscorer would be able to replicate his form in Scotland, and that’s what Celtic are hoping about Bayo.

Celtic fans might not appreciate the comparison, but if Bayo scores as many goals as Morelos has, his Celtic spell will be deemed a success.
