Gary Neville has said on Sky Sports News (7:48pm, December 6, 2021) that Arsenal attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard needs to do more.

The former Manchester United defender believes that Odegaard needs to score more goals and provide more assists for Arsenal.

Neville made the comments about the former Real Madrid player ahead of the Premier League game between Everton and Arsenal.

Odegaard actually scored a good goal for the Gunners at Goodison Park on Monday Night Football.

However, Everton found the back of the net twice late on to win 2-1.

Gary Neville on Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard

Neville said on Sky Sports News (7:48pm, December 6, 2021): “Odegaard’s an interesting one. I think he is a really good football player, just think that he has to start impacting the game a lot more in terms of the outcome.

“These number 10s that have emerged in the game over the last few years, these sort of wide players, number 10s, they really do have big numbers, and Odegaard needs to start now.

“He has got the quality to do it, but he needs to see it as a more serious part of his game rather than enjoy his build-up, which I think he is good at, but he needs to do the bit that really matters in terms of the final bit.”

Gary Neville has a point

Yes, Odegaard scored for Arsenal against Everton, but one swallow does not make a summer.

Just check the stats.

In our view, Odegaard does need to score more goals or at least create more chances and provide assists.

The Arsenal no. 8 has scored three goals and has provided no assist in nine Premier League starts so far this season.

The former Madrid attacking midfielder scored one goal and gave two assists in nine Premier League starts during the second half of last season.

Odegaard was then on loan at Arsenal, who paid Madrid £30 million in the summer of 2021 (Sky Sports) to make the deal permanent.

The Norway international has created only one big chance in 27 Premier League appearances for Arsenal so far in his career.

The 22-year-old has given seven through-balls.

We need more from Odegaard.
