Tottenham Hotspur players are ready to face Premier League rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this weekend, according to journalist Miguel Delaney in his Reading the Game newsletter in The Independent (12:05pm, August 12, 2022).
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that the Tottenham players are confident of taking on Chelsea and believe that they will pick up all three points from the Premier League game this weekend.
Tottenham and Chelsea won their respective Premier League games on the opening weekend of the season.
Tottenham Hotspur players confident of beating Chelsea
Journalist Delaney wrote in his Reading the Game newsletter in The Independent (12:05pm, August 12, 2022): “As the Tottenham Hotspur players like Harry Kane and Hong Seung-Min collapsed to the ground after gruelling pre-season runs, there were smiles of relish on the faces of Antonio Conte and his staff.
“It wasn’t just that the squad were suffering for their benefit, although there was obviously a mischievous element. It was mostly how they were being honed, toughened. Such military-like training all played into Conte’s belief that his teams, as an ideal, should be ‘small war machines’.

“It was a phrase he first used in his first pre-season with Chelsea back in 2016, before their first title. It is also something that Spurs are now starting to resemble, after his first pre-season at White Hart Lane.
“There is a belief within the team that they are ready to take on Chelsea, and take all three points. That is something that hasn’t happened much in recent history, as Conte knows too well.”
Big London derby
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are two of the biggest and most ambitious clubs in England, and this weekend’s London derby will be massive and hugely competitive.
While Chelsea are aiming to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title this season, Tottenham will look to close the gap between themselves and the Reds and the Citizens.
Playing at home will give the Blues an advantage, but former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will be keen to get Spurs to win at his former club.
Tottenham could play on the counter-attack and allow Chelsea to have possession in the opening minutes.
It promises to be an exciting and entertaining game of football.
