Arsenal fans and Mikel Arteta will largely be delighted with how things have gone in the Premier League so far this season.

The Gunners find themselves five points clear of Manchester City at the top of England’s top-flight, having lost just one game from 14 outings so far.

However, a new discovery from ESPN sources regarding that one defeat will anger Arteta and the Arsenal fans.

What’s the story?

Well, ESPN sources have now revealed that Gabriel Martinelli’s goal to put Arsenal 1-0 up against Manchester United at Old Trafford was wrongly disallowed.

The Brazil international thought he had put the north Londoners 1-0 up in the 12th minute back on 4th September, only for Lee Mason in the VAR booth to advise Paul Tierney to disallow the goal.

Mason believed Martin Ødegaard had fouled Christian Eriksen in the buildup.

Arsenal then went 1-0 down after a strike from Antony in the 35th minute, before eventually going on to lose 3-1 to the Red Devils thanks to a brace from Marcus Rashford.

You may argue that Arsenal would have lost the game anyway, but for those who watched the fixture, it was strikingly evident that Tierney’s decision switched the momentum of the clash.

This could cost Arsenal the Premier League title

Now, that suggestion may sound exaggerative, but Liverpool fans will agree with us.

Manchester City have proven themselves to be absolutely ruthless in a Premier League title race over the years, to the point where even a draw felt like a defeat for Jürgen Klopp.

The Reds finished the 2021/22 Premier League campaign with 92 points and just two defeats, only to lose out to the Citizens by a single point.

In the 2018/19 season, Liverpool remarkably won 97 points and lost just one game, but Manchester City still beat them to the title by a point.

Therefore, if the Gunners end up losing the Premier League title by the three points they dropped against Manchester United, Arteta will surely find himself absolutely seething.
