The 2025 NBA Cup is over, and there is a new champion.
Following an intense group stage and knockout run, the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs reached the finals of the 2025 NBA Cup.
While both teams have been in good form this season, it was Mike Brown’s Knicks that registered a solid 124-113 win over the Spurs.
After the win, superstar guard Jalen Brunson was named the MVP of the NBA Cup, and coach Brown had something to say about it.

In the final game of the in-season tournament, Brunson finished the night with 25 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists in 41 minutes of playing time.
The Knicks star’s performance made many go crazy, as he missed out on being a unanimous MVP by just one vote.
Speaking of winning the NBA Cup MVP, coach Brown used it as an opportunity to demand from the media to put Brunson in the regular-season MVP consideration as well.
“I hope on this stage, you guys, when you start talking about MVP candidates, his name is one of the first to come out of your mouth,” Brown said.
He added: “Because on this stage, to go get it done while winning is what, in my opinion, what the MVP is about.”

Since arriving in New York, Brunson has elevated his game to the next level, and this has skyrocketed him to stardom.
Even during the 2025-26 season, Brunson is averaging 28.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game. The 6’2″ guard’s performance has helped the Knicks flaunt an 18-7 record in the East.
Being the best player on the second-best team in the conference should be enough to get into the MVP race, right?
While JB may not be in the top five on the NBA’s recent MVP ladder, he currently holds sixth place.
It will be interesting to see if the Knicks’ NBA Cup victory and coach Brown’s plea make any difference to his position in the MVP race.
