Blackpool boss Mick McCarthy has praised Leeds United loanee Ian Poveda for his change in attitude, which has impressed him in training.
The 22-year-old joined the Championship club on loan in the summer, just two years after signing for the Whites on a free transfer.
Starting just 6 games for the side in the second tier of English football, it has not been the smooth ride that was expected for the talented winger.
However, Mick McCarthy has praised Leeds’ Ian Poveta for knuckling down and grafting for Blackpool.
Blackpool boss Mick McCarthy praises Leeds loanee Ian Poveda
As quoted by Lancs Live, the former Republic of Ireland manager said, “I think he wasn’t that consistent and I don’t think he’d been that good and it can be difficult with loan players.”
“They come in and if they’re not playing, they think ‘why should I be here?’ and it affects the performance. I think when they went to Spain, he’s really knuckled down and what I’ve seen of him in training is different class.”

“He really is a good footballer. He’s got a lot to offer us”, said Mick McCarthy about Leeds United starlet Ian Poveda at Blackpool.
Good news from a Leeds perspective
Considering ex-Man City teammate Riyad Mahrez continues to look out for the technician, commenting on his Instagram post after his exploits just goes to show his talent and character.
However, it is brilliant news for Leeds United fans that even Mick McCarthy seems to highly rate Ian Poveda, as a prospect as well as his mentality.
While the fleet-footed wideman does not look close to a first-team spot at current, he certainly will if he maintains this commendable attitude.
After all, the fact that Poveda impressed at the City academy in the first place is proof that there is no disputing his raw potential.
