Riyad Mahrez put a 2-word message to congratulate Leeds United loanee Ian Poveda on Instagram, after he posted a highlight reel of his stunning display for Blackpool against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.

Poveda joined the Championship side on a season-long loan, after initially signing for Leeds in January 2020 on a free transfer.

And Poveda showed why he is such a highly-rated talent in the FA Cup, as Blackpool tore Forest apart 4-1 in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, which led Riyad Mahrez to credit him.

The skilful Leeds wideman showed excellent composure in the box to double his side’s lead, after shifting the ball from left to right swiftly before passing it into the back of the net.

For those that are confused about the roots of the relationship between Poveda and Mahrez may have forgotten that the forme was at Manchester City from 2016 to 2019.

As Pep Guardiola’s side had a number of top wingers at the time, such as the Algerian himself, as well as the likes of Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane, the club simply had to part ways with Ian Poveda.

However, the 22-year-old seems to be developing nicely, as noticed by his former teammate.
