Michael Owen says he can’t see Harry Kane leaving Tottenham Hotspur for Liverpool, but ‘Manchester United is the one’.

The former Liverpool striker added that Jurgen Klopp doesn’t need attacking options, but a transfer to Manchester United is on the cards, although, he questioned if he would win anything at Old Trafford.

In the summer, Harry Kane will have 12 months left on his contract and those in the Spurs boardroom have a big call to make.

Daniel Levy, who is already under huge pressure, either sells his star striker or risks the possibility that he leaves for nothing in 2024.

It’s pretty clear to all that Manchester United need a number nine in the summer, it’s just a case of whether or not Kane is going to be their guy – but there are suggestions that they are trying.

Either way, Owen thinks it’s high time Kane left Spurs and he spoke about Liverpool and Manchester United’s chances, as he told Premier League Productions (30/04/23 at 1:30 pm).

“That will be one of the interesting things of the summer, whether Harry Kane stays or goes,” said Owen. “I probably think it’s time for him to try something else.

“Part of me nags at me, ‘you have stuck it out for so long, then you might as well go the whole hog now and be a one club man’ because it might damage his reputation if he does move now.

“Liverpool probably don’t have the money or need an attacking player and they are well-off there, so it’s Manchester United is the one.

“But is he going to win anything at Manchester United? They are still a few years away. That’s the question. Does he want to damage his legacy? I know he wants that top-scorer record, so I am pretty sure he will stay in this country. Manchester United are looking like they are coming good. But they are still miles behind Man City. They aren’t going to win the league next year.”

KLOPP’S PRAISE FOR KANE

Another away day. Another abject performance from Tottenham. This time at Anfield against Liverpool.

At Newcastle United a week ago, they were 5-0 down inside 20 minutes, with Kane scoring the only goal for his side.

At Liverpool, they were heading down the same road, this time they were 3-0 down inside 15 minutes, with Kane scoring yet again and Jurgen Klopp sharing after the game that he ‘loves’ the England captain as a player.
