Manchester United are reportedly preparing an £80m transfer offer to sign Harry Kane, with the Tottenham striker the Red Devils’ main attacking target for the summer.
According to the Star, the Old Trafford side have sanctioned a move to sign Kane as Erik Ten Hag looks to bring in a world-class centre-forward in the upcoming transfer market, with the 29-year-old Spurs star finally expected to leave north London.
Kane’s future had been increasingly tied to if Antonio Conte would stay at Tottenham. However, with the Italian being dismissed last week, there’s now a good chance that the England captain could also depart Spurs, with United interested in signing the attacker.
The Manchester giants have made it very clear heading into this summer that a top striker is their main priority, and with Kane’s position at Tottenham as weak as it ever has been in terms of the forward staying at his boyhood club, it makes sense why United are now considering an offer.
Indeed, Kane has the potential to fire United back into the Premier League title race for next season if Ten Hag can get his man, yet with an opening offer of £80m, there’s a near-certain chance that Daniel Levy will reject this bid given just how valuable the striker is for Tottenham.
However, getting their foot in the door early could help United long-term in their bid to sign Kane, which will realistically drag on throughout the entire summer if the Manchester side submit their first offer for the attacker early enough in the window.
Manchester United have to be smart in their first offer for Kane
Kane is expected to be one of the most expensive transfers this summer, with the attacker arguably at the peak of his powers and ready to take his career to a new level based on the club he signs for, which is why United have to be certain that their opening offer is a strong one.
With Levy one of the hardest negotiators in football, United know they need to impress with their first real bid for Kane, and whilst £80m might not do that, the Red Devils could go one step further with this attempt with some extra financial incentives.
