Earlier this week, Il Milanista reported that Liverpool and Leeds United are leading the race for Rodrigo De Paul.
As covered by HITC Sport, the report claimed that AC Milan, Napoli, Juventus and Inter Milan are also interested in the Udinese attacking midfielder.
However, yesterday, Leeds Chief Executive Angus Kinnear said on The Phil Hay Show on The Athletic that the club are not going to sign the Argentina international, who can also operate as a winger.
Kinnear said on The Phil Hay Show on The Athletic when asked about signing De Paul from Udinese: “If we had the money, I think we would just buy him, just to shut you guys up. I don’t think that one has any legs.”
This means that Leeds are not in the race for De Paul, which suggests that Liverpool are now in pole position for the Argentine.
Music to the ears of Liverpool Sporting Director Michael Edwards.
Liverpool’s main challengers for De Paul are now out of the running.
With the likes of Milan and Juventus reportedly not able to compete with Liverpool financially, the ball is the court of the Premier League club now.

De Paul is a very creative player who also scores goals.
The Argentine’s stats are great for a player who is turning out for a club who tend to finish in mid-table in Serie A.
The 26-year-old has scored nine goals and provided nine assists in Serie A this season, while in 2019-20, he scored seven goals and gave six assists in the league and in 2018-19 he scored nine goals and had eight assists to his name.
Udinese are 12th in the Serie A table at the moment, while in 2019-20 they finished 13th and ended up 12th in 2018-19.
De Paul is 26 now, which means that his best is yet to come.
Described as someone who has “extraordinary technique” and who “knows the game of football” by former Udinese head coach Julio Velazquez in Tuttomercatoweb, as covered by HITC Sport, the Argentine would make Liverpool better and more creative.
