If there’s one man at Liverpool who is hard to criticise it’s Michael Edwards.
The Sporting Director has masterminded some of the greatest signings in the clubs history, and he’s also manufactured some of the best sales the Reds have ever made.
He got £20m for Dominic Solanke, £25m for Rhian Brewster and £15m for Jordon Ibe, and it’s fair to say that those were three examples of absolute daylight robbery from the Reds.
However, not all of his sales were home runs, and one rare transfer blunder he made in 2019 is now coming back to bite the Reds.

Of course, we’re talking about the decision to part ways with Danny Ings.
The striker has gone from strength to strength since leaving Liverpool, netting 21 Premier League goals last term, and he’s followed that up with another eight league goals already this season, that’s more than Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino have managed during this campaign.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s attack is faltering, they’ve not scored a single goal from open play at home in 2021, while the club are seemingly scrambling around to sign a new number nine, with the likes of Jonathan David and Youssef En-Nesyri.
We can understand why Liverpool feel they need a new striker. After all, Roberto Firmino has only scored six league goals all season, but we can’t help but feel this could all have been avoided if Liverpool didn’t sanction the sale of Ings back in 2019.
It’s harsh to point fingers at Liverpool’s recruitment team for their current struggles, but even the brightest footballing minds have to hold their hands up sometimes and admit they’ve got it wrong.
If Liverpool still had Ings, perhaps their current attacking problems wouldn’t be so severe, but unfortunately, he’s starring at Southampton and their decision to let him go is coming back to haunt them as they continue to falter in front of goal.
