Reporter Michael Bridge has told Sky Sports News (Tuesday, 01.23AM) that Tottenham defender Djed Spence could go out on loan to a Premier League clubs – but has been told to “wait and see” regarding developments on the right-back.
Spence, 22, has endured a difficult time at Spurs. Managing just six appearances for the London club – the latter as a sub against Portsmouth on Saturday. Spence has failed to start since his move from Middlesbrough last summer.
He needs to leave, given he is the club’s third-choice option at right-back. Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty are higher than Spence in the pecking order. Spurs are also trying to do a deal to land Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro.
Southampton, Wolves and Brentford are potential signings for Spence on loan this month, according to The Mirror (08/01, p77). Bridge gives an update, saying he has been told to “wait and see” over a potential loan exit for Spence.
“Does [a move for a right wing-back] rely on him going out on loan? Wait and see, is what I’ve been told on Spence potentially going out on loan. My understanding is, it would be to a Premier League club – not in the Championship.”

Even if Spurs fail to do a deal for Porro, or another right-back, Spence needs a loan. You would suggest that it does not matter if Spurs sign a right wing-back. He needs a loan. If Spurs get Porro, it is likely either Doherty or Royal are sold.
So, time will tell. We are a third of the way through the window, but as the window edges closer to the deadline, things will become clearer. Deals will be easier to manufacture. Porro may see his price tag drop to allow Spurs to do a deal.
