Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence is attracting major interest with Brentford, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers keen.

That’s according to The Mirror (08/01, p77), who claim that interest in Spence is mounting during this month’s transfer window.

It’s suggested that Brentford, Southampton and Wolves all fancy signing Spence on loan until the end of the season.

The report adds that Spence is open to leaving Tottenham on loan if he doesn’t receive more minutes under Antonio Conte.

Spence joined Tottenham from Middlesbrough over the summer as he completed a rather protracted deal worth up to £20million.

Many expected Spence to become Conte’s star wing back having played a vital role in Nottingham Forest’s promotion whilst on loan there.

Instead, Spence has barely been seen by Tottenham fans and has played just five minutes of Premier League action this season.

The 22-year-old is stalling right now and a loan move away this month makes sense for everybody.

Loan options make sense for Tottenham talent Spence

Brentford were keen on signing Spence over the summer but ended up landing Scottish talent Aaron Hickey instead as Tottenham won the race.

Hickey has been out injured for a while though and Spence may have a real chance to share time at right wing back with Mads Roerslev.

Wolves do have Nelson Semedo in their ranks but are allegedly seeking more English signings with Spence a prime target.

Julen Lopetegui has shown that he can play a four or a three at the back, so this would give Spence experience in both roles moving forward.

Southampton do have a regular right back in former Tottenham Hotspur talent Kyle Walker-Peters though and Spurs may not want to risk him being on the fringes.

Brentford and Wolves make more sense than Southampton for us, but it’s great to see that the 22-year-old will have Premier League option.
