Michael Beale has told his post-match press conference on Rangers TV that Ibrox midfielder John Lundstram took an injection to play against Celtic on Monday – after having done so against Aberdeen earlier on in Beale’s reign at Ibrox.
Lundstram, 28, started for Rangers against Old Firm rivals Celtic and lasted 71 minutes. He left the pitch with Rangers leading 2-1 and his absence was felt, with Rangers struggling to match the intensity of the English midfielder.
Kyogo got an equaliser and lacking Lundstram in midfield contributed to that. James Sanda struggled, and Ryan Jack was in and out of the game during his 20-minute cameo. Clearly, Lundstram is playing with an injury at the moment.
But is also showing enormous commitment to keep on playing for Rangers. Beale has previously said that he took an injection to be on the bench against Aberdeen, he late 3-2 win. Now, Beale says he has another injection for Celtic.
“We should’ve seen that game out. It comes down to big moments in the game – John Lundstram having to come off, he has been taking an injection to play,” Beale said, in his post-match press conference on Rangers’ YouTube channel.

Beale: Rangers midfielder Lundstram took injection to play against Celtic
Beale also said during the press conference that he had to look a couple of his Rangers players in the eyes, against Celtic. To see where their head was at, to see if they had the hunger to play for Rangers – or might consider an exit.
Lundstram is certainly not a player that he needs to question, in terms of mentality and attitude. To be taking injections to play for Rangers this season is a massive sign of the player’s character. He is ready to play through pain for his team.
Beale now has a few days to work with his players after an intense schedule, with the Gers next in action on Sunday – away at Dundee United. Between now and then, Rangers might have made a couple of moves in the transfer window.
